RBI Requires Banks to Shift Websites to ‘.bank.in’ Domain to Enhance Cybersecurity

April 22, 2025

Cybersecurity

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated the transition of all bank websites to the exclusive ‘.bank.in’ domain, as part of its broader efforts to reinforce cybersecurity and increase public confidence in the financial system amid growing digital payment fraud (accessible [here]).

The domain will be managed exclusively by the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), which has been authorised by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Banks are required to begin the registration process by contacting IDRBT at sahyog@idrbt.ac.in, and must complete the migration to the new domain by October 31, 2025.
